A feasibility analysis study helps businesses determine why, how, if and when to launch a specific initiative, campaign, project, or program. Here are the Top Five Reasons to consider hiring a consultant to conduct your feasibility study:
1) An initial thought, concept or idea can sound brilliant and amazing. Yet, a great idea or thought with no substance, no well thought-out plan, no experience referenced, or no guidance whatsoever can become a recipe for disaster. Hence, the best advice here is to start with the idea or concept with the full intention of going through an entire life-cycle of thought-provoking questions and answers from start to finish.
2) You think hiring your own internal staff is the solution to saving a few bucks? Your internal team members certainly have a great handle on their day-to-day in their respective areas of focus. However, they each will have a different take on their area which comes along with their own bias to what's in favor for their specific departments and roles. Hiring an outside consultant will help you stay mindful to the many layers of your organization and will also uncover opportunities and challenges. Having an outline lens with a non-biased holistic strategy to tie it all together is the key.
3) Considering putting a hefty investment into a key idea, concept or strategy? Hold onto your business account until you have thoroughly researched all predictable and unpredictable scenarios, uncovered opportunities not considered, and evaluted all threats for worse-case scenario outcomes. Knowing the red flags, successfully preparing for these red flags with contingency plans, and having resources available for emergencies places a precious value on your investments to prepare for more predictable outcomes.
4) Have you considered which team members in your organization should be involved with this specific initiative? Many businesses can fall into the category of "big fail" here. Why? Bringing in the correct departments and teams keep employees focused on the end goal. Having an understanding of being inclusive with the correct team members keeps everyone in alignment with their day-to-day. However, having the wrong team members or departments involved in an initiative for the sake of just wanting to include and allow them opportunity does not always translate to a successful initiative. Moral of the story - only involve those who need to be involved. Keep it simple and do not over-complicate. Business owners or department heads will be biased. An outside consultant seeks for non-biased strategy to meet desired end goals.
5) Is your business idea or concept fantastic but all over the place with no focus? Allowing a consultant into your organization's layers for an objective strategy contains the idea, concept or strategy and drills it down to a quantifiable plan of attack which can be implemented into a timeline with trackable stopping points to keep everyone involved on point with purposeful action items. These exercises can also help determine the feasibility of NOT implementing a project or plan which can save a tremendous amount of time and investment if not worth the time, money and effort needed.
